Heal Better: How Laser Therapy Helps Your Body Recover
Recovering from a musculoskeletal injury can certainly be a challenge. Pain and stiffness can make even the simplest movements uncomfortable, which means crucial rehabilitation exercises can feel out of reach.
That’s why the team at IMG Physical Therapy offers deep tissue laser therapy as part of our comprehensive approach to physical therapy. This non-invasive treatment uses focused light energy to stimulate your body’s natural healing process, helping facilitate your rehabilitation.

Everything You Need to Know About Laser Therapy
How Does It Work?
Laser therapy involves sending specific wavelengths of light deep into your damaged tissue. The light interacts with cells to boost circulation, reduce inflammation, and help tissues repair themselves more effectively.
Who Can Benefit?
Laser therapy is effective for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Neck or back pain
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Muscle strains and sprains
- Nerve pain and neuropathy
- Sports injuries
- Post-surgical healing support
What to Expect During Your Sessions
One of our physical therapists applies a handheld laser directly to your skin. The device delivers concentrated light to the target area for several minutes.
You may feel mild warmth, but the treatment isn’t painful. It also doesn’t require any downtime, so you can go back to your daily routine right after treatment.
The number of sessions you’ll need depends on your condition. Acute injuries might need fewer visits, while chronic pain often benefits from ongoing care. In both cases, laser therapy is most effective when paired with other physical therapy treatments, such as manual therapy and therapeutic exercise.
Exercise of the Month
Figure 4 Bridge
(Glutes, Hips)
Begin on your back. Bend your knees and keep your back flat on the ground. Cross one leg over the other so that your legs make a “4”. Gently, contract your abdominals and hold to keep your back flat as you move up into the bridge position. Remember to breathe. Gently, squeeze your butt muscles and lift your hips off the ground. The goal is to have your hips aligned with your knees and shoulders. 3 Sets, 10 Reps.
6 Ways Laser Therapy Can Help You Feel Better
Naturally Reduces Pain
Laser therapy triggers the release of endorphins (your body’s natural painkillers) and decreases nerve sensitivity. This helps reduce discomfort from injuries, arthritis, and chronic pain without relying on medication.
Even better? Many patients notice relief after just one or two sessions, and depending on the condition and consistency of treatment, it can last hours or days.
Decreases Inflammation and Swelling
Inflammation is a natural part of your body’s defense system, but when it lasts too long, it can cause ongoing pain and slow recovery. Laser therapy helps calm this process at the cellular level, easing stiffness, improving mobility, and shortening the recovery time for both acute and chronic conditions.

Improves Circulation
Laser therapy enhances circulation in injured areas by expanding small blood vessels and improving oxygen delivery. Better blood flow brings more nutrients to tissues that need them most and helps remove waste products that can cause swelling and impede recovery.
Accelerates Tissue Repair
Laser therapy improves how cells produce energy and repair themselves, facilitating the body’s natural repair process. Specifically, it helps muscles, ligaments, and tendons rebuild faster.
For this reason, patients recovering from sprains, strains, or surgery often experience quicker healing times and better outcomes.
Supports Nerve Regeneration
Your muscles, tendons, and ligaments aren’t the only tissues that can benefit from laser therapy! It can also help nerve tissue regenerate more effectively.
The light energy promotes repair of the nerve sheath and encourages healthier nerve function. As a result, it can reduce numbness, tingling, or burning sensations often linked with nerve compression or diabetic neuropathy.
Enhances Recovery After Surgery or Injury
All these qualities add up to one major benefit: laser therapy helps your body bounce back faster after surgery or injury. It can minimize scar tissue, reduce stiffness, and improve range of motion, meaning you can return to your favorite activities sooner and with a lower risk of re-injury.

A Note From Eric
“Hello all,
I hope everyone’s having a good start to the holiday season. If you have not had a chance yet to stop and say hello and see the train set up and the tree, please do not hesitate to stop by. We would love to see you.
As some of you may or may not know, we write the newsletter a few months ahead of the actual month that it is released. I have been seeing a lot of Woolly Bear Caterpillars the last few days. I would like to make a prediction for the winter based on two different Woolly Bear Caterpillars I have seen with the same markings. Based on the Woolly Bears’ black to brown to black markings, this predicts a harsh start to the winter, a mild middle of the winter season, and then a rough end to the winter season. As most of you know, if the Woolly Bear is all black, that means a harsh winter is coming. If the Woolly Bear is brown, then the winter will be mild.

If the Woolly Bear is to be believed, then we are experiencing a rough start to the winter. For those of you who have been out fighting the cold and the elements and have a sore back, sore shoulder, or other issue from battling the elements, or just have pain in general from the cold weather, we have an offer for you. Call our office and mention this Woolly Bear article to receive a trial laser treatment. Laser therapy is a great treatment modality that introduces infrared light to cells and tissues that are damaged, helping speed up cellular processes to improve tissue healing, repair, and overall pain relief. This will help get you feeling better and back to doing the things you enjoy doing, whether the winter is harsh or mild.
From the IMG Physical Therapy family to your family, we wish you a Happy Holiday season and a great New Year.”
Patient Spotlight
“Before I met Chris, no one had ever told me that my left pelvis tilted back and my right pelvis tilted forward. No wonder it was so hard for me to take walks outside. I realize that I have had chronic low back pain for almost 20 years and have had epidurals. At the same time, I feel I need a combination of therapies for my chronic low back and arthritis. Here at IMG-PT, I learned different stretches that hopefully after discharge will keep my pelvis aligned. I so much enjoy walking and when my back and pelvis are acting up, I am unable to walk. I plan to come back to the office for laser therapy as needed and strength training.” – Barbara F.
